Presented Series of scientific works «Zoological Diversity of Dnipropetrovsk Region and its Protection» consists of 8 books and 1 collective work «The Red Data Book of the Dnipropetrovsk Region (The Animal World)».

The authors of the Series characterize more than 800 animal species of the Dnipropetrovsk region, among them 424 species are rare and endangered.

The main results of the Series are the identification of invertebrate and chordate animal species of the region, species distribution and abundance, morphological features, structure of populations, trophic relationships, diet spectra, and parasites. The cadastre of all species of cyclostomes, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, and many invertebrates are developed.

For the first time the functional role of vertebrates in ecosystems of Dnipropetrovsk region has been investigated.The role of amphibians and reptiles in processes of self-purification of soil and freshwaters has been specified.Capabilities of invertebrate and vertebrate animals use as bioindicators of environmental pollution are determined.The economic values of animals of the region, their rational management and required measures for protection and conservation have been described.

As a result of the presented research the ecological network in five administrative areas of the region were created. The total area of natural reservations was increased by 2.4 times.

The authors have published 8 monographs and 1 collective work. The research results received approval as 133 presentations at international conferences, meetings and symposia. Three PhD and one doctoral dissertations were defended.

The developed Series of scientific works is a system of scientifically substantiated information on animal populations in ecosystems of the Dnipropetrovsk region for all interested users. It promotes the following objectives: faunal studies of the region and Ukraine as a whole, ecological monitoring, environmental protection, management decisions, informational support of specific research and system of science and education in Ukraine.

The total number of peer reviewed publications of the authors is 137; the number of references to the authors’ publications (SCOPUS, RISC Science Index, and GoogleScholar) is 275.H-index of the Series authors ranges from 2 to 5.
