The series of scientific works consists of 6 monographs, 1 chapter in monograph and 196 scientific articles (including 9 reviews) published in 1989–2012.

One of the most actual directions of modern condensed matter physics is examination of different orderings in metal-containing materials and structures, which reveal both new fundamental properties, and clear prospects of practical application, such as, for example, the high-temperature superconductors or the materials with giant magnetoresistance. However, owing to complexity of these systems, their innovative potential remains far not settled.

The goal of the given series of works was to reveal the mechanisms of formation and correlation of different types of ordering in bulk and on a surface of metal-containing materials for purposeful governing of their functional properties and for the subsequent application in electronics, spintronics, sensorics, and biotechnologies. To achive this goal, one had to join the state-of-the-art experimental thechniques and theoretical methods presented in Ukraine, to find out functional types of orderings and to reveal general mechanisms of their formation and interplay which are suitable for applications.

The origins and mechanisms of the charge, spin and atomic orderings as well as the molecular self-organization in structures with competing types of orders are revealed, and their connection with electronic band structure is established. Magneto-electronic and configuration-dimensional effects, which determine the specified mechanisms and allow to tune the functional properties of these structures, have been found. These are the effects of electron–spin and magnetoelastic interactions, a hyperfine interaction, the mechanisms of transfer of the spin and rotational moments, a chemical bond, quantum mechanisms of ordering of electrons, configuration-dimensional effects and commensurability effects.

It is shown that certain key interactions and new effects create a fundamentals for application of the specified structures in micro- and the molecular electronics, spintronics, sensorics and biotechnologies, precise instrument design. In particular, the spin diode on the base of double tunneling transition from multilayer iron–magnesium oxide structure is realized, the high-ordered monolayer films with controllable surface properties are obtained, the materials for effective removal of radionuclides from water solutions and their long-term storage are offered.

The results of these works are published in 203 scientific publications, including 6 monographs, 1 chapter in monograph, and 196 articles in the reviewed journals (including 141 foreign journals). The published works are cited in more than 150 scientific journals; the papers where cited 3595 times (according to the SCOPUS database); h-index = 33. Based on these results, 9 doctor's (DSc) and 19 candidate's (PhD) theses have been defended.
