The work is aimed to develop the scientifically substantiated concept of the controlled synthesis of functional nanomaterials with predicted properties, determine the mechanisms of their formation and ascertain the interrelations between composition, structural and morphological features and their properties. For the first time in world and domestic materials science, the fundamentals of the synthesis of a wide range of various nanostructured physicochemical systems have been theoretically and experimentally substantiated within the scope of an integrated cycle of investigations, these systems cover lyophilic colloids (including hydrophilic ones) based on organic diphilic molecules to liquid-phase lyophobic colloids (including hydrophobic ones) based on molecular- and nano-dispersed carbon (fullerenes, detonated nanodiamonds, carbon nanotubes), metals and their oxides, and modified nanosilica, to solid nanomaterials, including polymeric nanocomposites, exfoliated graphite, modified graphene, various redox carbon and silica sorbents and catalysts, and to electrodeposited nanostructured metals, alloys, oxides and composites coatings. The scientific bases of chemical and physicochemical synthesis of nanostructured materials have been developed those are grounded on the goal-seeking influence on their functional properties in a wide range of hierarchical levels: from molecules to associates, complex aggregates and ensembles as well as three-dimensional micro- and macrosystems. The principles of controlling the nanostructure and properties of materials have been suggested and new high-performance methods of their synthesis have been developed for different hierarchies of nanostructures: 0D ®1D ®2D ®3D. As concern the complex of physicochemical and service properties, the developed nanostructured materials exceed known domestic and world analogues. The main applied results of the work are new electrochemical, plasma-chemical, hydrothermal, colloidal-chemical and sorption techniques of the preparation and application of nanomaterials with predicted functional properties of different assignments (including energetics, engineering industry, agriculture, medicine and veterinary science). These techniques have been implemented in tens of Ukrainian and foreign enterprises (the Republic of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and the People's Republic of China).
