The aim of the work is the concept of balanced development, the strategy of wetland conservation, modern paradigm, methodological foundations of marshland in the ecological aspect.
In the presented cycle of scientific works for the first time in the national science the scientific and theoretical foundations of helology (marsh science) were substantiated, the concept-terminology apparatus was improved, for the first time new terms were introduced. The scientific method of paleoecological research of deposits is offered, ecological certification of mires and peatlands is developed. Maps of peat-zoned zoning, turbidity, and waterlogging of the territory of Ukraine have been developed. The basic modern factors of marsh formation, in particular, the overgrown of aqua complexes with invasive hydrophytes, active sedimentation, watering of ponds, the spread of sphagnum mosses in shaded forest basins with disturbed drainage, determined succession orientation. The largest autochthonous variety of unchanged marshes in comparison with other ecosystems has been proved. The scientific substantiation of the conservation of rare species of flora is used in the compilation of protective lists of Volyn, Kyiv regions, the Red Book of Ukraine. The new phyto-associations described by Braun-Blanquet are described. According to the results of the research, Cheremske bog was included in the Ramsar International List. New objects of the nature reserve fund of Ukraine are created. Polissia ecological convention was initiated. The processes of genesis of wetland ecosystems are investigated, their types, biosphere function and ecosozologial significance are determined. The economic effect of implementation is to increase the efficiency of nature use (water, forestry, agriculture, peat industry); reduction of negative impact (economic, ecological losses) on wetlands; ensuring the preservation of biotic diversity; formation of Pan-European ecological network.
