The work was aimed at developing the fundamental principles of molecular vitaminology as well as creating new drugs based on vitamins B1, B3, E, D3 for their application in medicine. Achievement of this goal included studying the mechanisms of participation of vitamins and their natural and synthetic derivatives in the integration of cellular metabolism, the creation of new generation vitamin compositions and their implementation.
The authors, based on theoretical and experimental studies has established new patterns and suggested ways to implement the molecular mechanisms of the biological action of vitamins in humans. In particular, the consistency of their functioning with other natural bioregulators, the role of specific proteins as potential targets for vitamins, the participation of vitamins in regulating cellular metabolism under norms and pathology are substantiated. These fundamental researches provided the basis for creation of new original compositions of vitamins as medicines.
The concept of creation of complex vitamin preparations has been developed, according to which the compositions of several functionally linked vitamins and biologically active substances synergistically strengthen the limiting links of cellular metabolism. The complex of vitamins with proteins in the composition of the preparations provides their high bioequivalence, bioavailability, effectiveness of the active components. The creation of the complex drugs, in which the vitamins are in a protein-bound state, is an innovative proposition.
Vitamin preparations (Videin, Metovitan, Calmivid) are registered in Ukraine as medicines. Their action is aimed at normalizing metabolic processes in a number of diseases. Complex fundamental researches of biochemists, chemists, pharmacologists and clinicians allowed to substantiate the methodological approaches and to develop the algorithms for the using the created vitamin preparations. Industrial production of the Videin was carried out by the Kiev Vitamin Plant during 1997-2006. The β-carotene drug Karatelka was included in the list of the 100 best drugs of the year in Ukraine in 2003. Metovitane is manufactured by the company «Technologist» (Uman).
