The authors a new research-based concept for stamping artillery shells have been developed. Scientific novelty consists in obtaining new knowledge for the creation of resource-saving technologies, designs of stamping equipment and outfit for the production of large-caliber projectile cases.

Three-dimensional finite element models of multi-pass stamping processes of artillery shells have been developed. They allow determining the thermal-stressed-deformed state of the workpiece, as well as energy-force parameters during the deformation process.

The obtained results as to the shape change, energy-power parameters and mechanical properties have been experimentally verified in industrial conditions.

The authors have presented a theoretical and experimental assessment of the quality, accuracy, tactical and technical characteristics of large-caliber shells of 122 mm, 125 mm, 152 mm, 155 mm caliber (M107 and M795) with low production costs and high productivity.

According to the operational characteristics, the manufactured shells meet the requirements for mechanical properties and provide indicators of clustering and fragmentation field. In terms of technical level, technological, technical and economic indicators, the development corresponds to the best world analogues, and some indicators exceed them.

The results of the research in the form of technological processes and equipment for stamping large-caliber artillery shells have been implemented and are being mass-produced at two Ukrainian enterprises.

The economic effect of the production of Ukrainian shells compared to purchases from partners is UAH 21 billion per year.
