This paper deals with the problem of scientific heritage of the traditional Ukrainian’s fair in the second half of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century. In the research there is examined the main tendency of the studying of traditional culture of the fairs. The research explains the problems of organization, periodicity of carrying out and duration of Ukrainian’s fairs of the second half of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century. Defined are the influence of the fair on the developing of material and spiritual culture. The attention is concentrated on specificity of the fair’s customs of the purchase and sale of the cattle, the craft goods.

Showed are the entertainment forms of young people at the fairs, the youth’s customs of the social character. The author tries to show the fairs as the artistic-entertaining complex.

The article deals with fair as ethno-cultural phenomenon that reflects the peculiarities of the Ukrainian people’s historical, social-economical, and spiritual developments as well as its ethnic worldview. Specified are characteristic features, patterns of conduct, and peculiarities of the fair’s organization and structure; highlighted is its importance in the socialization and cultural upbringing of the individual. Analyzed and systematized are the customary aspects of buying and selling processes at the fair, as well as folk beliefs, superstitions and omens typical of the Ukrainian fair trade. The fair is investigated as one of the sources of the Ukrainian folklore culture; shown is the impact of the fair on the development of culture of the Ukrainian people.
